The One Who Got Away

This is a story of a boy named Clint,
A nerdy freshman that can’t take a hint,
Clint walks around the school,
Thinking he’s super cool,
He is the president of the chess team,
And playing X-Box all day is his dream.
Clint goes to crazy house parties at night,
Causing him and his girlfriend to get in fights.
Clint realized what went wrong,
But waited way too long,
Even though he tried to call her daily,
Too far away was his beloved Hailey.
One day Hailey did pick up her phone,
But she was in a different time zone,
With a man named Esteban,
Upon whom she truly fawned.
Now Clint is all alone,
With nothing but a phone,
Hailey doesn’t pick up anymore,
Instead she is lying on the shore.
Esteban took her to Spain,
Where she drinks costly champagne,
And will soon forget about Clint,
The boy who couldn’t take a hint.
If Clint hadn’t tried to be so popular,
He and Hailey might have lasted together,
Together they would have grown old,
Now his heart grows bitter and cold.
Today Clint turns sixty-seven,
And works at seven-eleven,
Since he can’t forget about the past,
No new love of his will ever last.
